Night life

This morning we the program started at 10:20. Most people took this extra time to get some more well needed sleep. However, some people decided that they did not need any sleep and got up at 6 to take a hike to fairy  massif.

After gathering in front of the hostel, we took the bus to Everwide Chemicals, which is a smaller company (around 200 employees) which produces adhesives and resins. Since the ride took about 2 hours, we needed to have lunch on the bus. Luckily, the 2 students from Sun-Yat sen University that accompanied us supplied everyone with some very nice and well-filled sandwiches.  Enough entertainment to fill the bus ride was also provided. First we got a small introductory video on Everwide, followed by a small quiz with the promise of a small prize for the people who scored 100/100 points. Afterwards the busdriver put on a old Italian movie. Initially with Chinese subtitles, but luckily the English subtitles were swiftly found.

At Everwide, we got tours of their warehouse, production and packing facilities. They produce every order in Batch based on the demands of the customers. These batches are all still made by hand, instead of the automised processes were used to seeing at company visits. The tour was ended with a showcase of all the products that contain one of the products from Everwide. Which might be a lot more than you think, as they can be found in products ranging from tail lights to TV screens and floorboards.

The next part of the tour consisted of a visit to all the laboratories, where we were able to stress-test one of the adhesives and also make our very own epoxy resin key chain. After the lab tour, we viewed some presentations about the projects that Everwide is currently involved in, such as the Taiwenese rocket program.

To conclude the visit, the people who were able to get 100% on the quiz got a taiwanese soda. And one of the owners and founding member of the company gave a short talk, before it was time to get back into the bus for a rainy bus ride with a taiwanese movie. Once we were back in Kaohsiung again it was time to enjoy an evening with free time.
