Night life

After enjoying the first breakfast in Japan, we went to Hosokawa Micron. This company specializes in machines for powder processing. After listening to presentations about the company, the R & D section, and the educational system and career prospects in Japan, we enjoyed an amazing lunch provided by the company. During lunch, we talked with employees about the company and the Japanese and Dutch culture. Finally, the director of Hosokawa Micron gave a short presentation.

After saying goodbye to the large group of enthusiastic employees of Hosokawa Micron, two groups formed naturally. One group went back to Kyoto, either to relax a bit, or to endeavor on a temple tour headed by Daan. In proper Dutch fashion the group turned to the bicycle for their transport between the many temples of Kyoto. However, due to some technical difficulties the group ended up using their own ‘benenwagen’.

The second group went to Osaka, to visit the most well-known attraction of this age old city; Osaka Castle. Besides the beautiful garden and impressive architecture. The castle serves as a sort of museum and vantage point over the area. After some confusion about whether the Castle was open, only Jochem and Milva went into the castle. Ulla and Sven were the only ones smart enough to immediately make for the nearby Osaka museum of history.

Nonetheless, the group was (partially) reunited while trying the local delicacy: Takoyaki! This fried squid ball is said to be the best Osaka can offer, and this first taste (for most) did not let the participants down. The groups once again split up to get food and experience some more culture in Osaka such as Okonomiyaki, the Dotonbori bridge and the well timed Tenjin Matsuri festival.
