Night life

This day started by waking up early as we had to leave the hostel at 7:50. As the night before many Japies ended up going for a few drinks, some of us (including one of the writers) were having a slightly hard time. Even though the leading committee member of the day was having some trouble finding our bus, we ended up at the first company visit of the day 1.5 hours later. The first stop was ITRI, the industrial technology research institute. We first watched a small movie about their research, after which we got a tour through their showroom. Here we got to take a look at some of their (award winning) research developments in various fields, including smart living, circular economy, biomedicine, health and sustainability.

Afterwards, we had some time to grab lunch and our day proceeded at TSMC, the Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company. TSMC is one of the major players in semiconductors on the market worldwide. We first got a tour through their museum, including some historical facts about the company and a virtual reality experience.

After this, we went to one of their many fabs (factories), after handing in all our digital devices and airport-like security we got to sit down with some nice bubble tea. Here, we were shown a presentation about the company and working at TSMC.

Next, we took the bus back to the city centre which meant the end of the official program of the day. Some Japies opted to visit the dragon temple and/or Taipei 101, which offers a beautiful view of the city all the way from the 91st floor. Others chose a different activity, playing some nice games at one of Taipei’s many arcade centers.
