The second day of the trip has arrived and most participants seem to have familiarized themselves with the culture already. Many caipirinhas were drunk and adventures were had the night before but at 9:50 everyone was ready for the walking tour planned this morning.
We started at the Carioca clock where also one of the oldest building in Rio is located. The tour guide got ready to teach us (+some random lost tourists) all about Rio’s history. Carioca is what the people of Rio are called, after one of the native habitants of the area. The guide told us a lot of stories about the colonial history of Brazil and how the country evolved after its independence.
After the tour we had free time and good weather, so almost everyone had the same thought: going to Copocabana! After having lunch that took a bit longer then expected we headed there and enjoyed the seaside. The waves were really big and strong so swimming was a great adventure and the worried life guards had to keep us in check with their whistles. Luckily we all know how to swim very well and no one got hurt. Some of us also played beach volleyball at one of the many fields and had fun with the Brazilian people. After a nice shower we watched to World Cup matches in a bar next to the hotel and enjoyed some nice coronas and caipirinhas (of course)
