Albert Schenning – SFD Research Group

Hello! My name is Albert Schenning, and I will be one of the scientific supervisors for the 2026 study tour.
I have been part of the department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at TU/e for over 25 years, where I currently serve as a professor of the Stimuli-responsive Functional materials & Devices (SFD) research group. In our group, we focus on the development of advanced polymers with novel responsive functionalities. These smart materials are designed to respond to various stimuli such as temperature, light, or humidity and are integrated into devices aimed at addressing industrial and societal challenges. Our research has applications in diverse fields including soft robotics, smart coatings, sustainable energy, and healthcare.
As a scientific supervisor, I am eager to support the students as they embark on this unique and enriching journey. I see the study tour not only as an opportunity to contribute academically but also as a valuable chance to connect with students beyond the classroom. This will be my first visit to Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay, and I am excited to experience the diverse cultures, landscapes, and rich histories of these fascinating countries. I am equally curious to explore the scientific, technological, and industrial developments shaping this region.
I greatly look forward to this journey, not just as an academic adventure, but also as a memorable social and cultural experience.
