After a quick breakfast the group split up for the first free day in Montevideo.
Vico, Anvitha en Robert went on an adventure to Punta del Este. In order to get there the three of them rented a car for the day. Thanks to Vico’s natural Uruguayanan driving style, the drive to Punta del Este went smoothly. With some nice views and roads that looked like they came from a cartoon.

After a 2 hour drive we arrived at our destination and went straight for the target, lunch.

On the other side of the country a group went to a winery for a tour and tasting. The owner was the 4th generation of his family that owned the winery. He didn’t speak any English so the tour was given by a 17 year old that spoke a bit of English. Despite the language barrier the tour was very enjoyable and afterwards the wine was even more enjoyable. We tried 7 different wines, 1 rose, 3 red wines, 1 alcohol free sparking wine, 1 pineapple infused sparkiling wine and 1 dessert wine. One of the red wines was from 2004 and thus older then some of the people at the table. Lastly they also asked us if we wanted to try some grappa so we ofcourse said yes please! After getting a little tipsy some people bought a bottle of one of the red wines and it was time for our next adventure.

The group split up as some had tickets for a football match of the local club, so they decided to leave towards that area.

Back in Punta del Este.
After lunch the three of us went to see the hand rising from the sand, where we took an obligatory picture. Next came the two souvenir shops where Vico bought two whole mugs. The last stop on the trip was the most southern point of Uruguay. One quick coffee later the journey back began. The music took a turn for the worst with songs like “Flitsmeister”. With the car returned and no extra scratches we returned back to the hostel.
The evening was time to chill and watch some Mexican temptation island or play some pool. And that leaves us with sort of three days left in South Americ
