Hi guys. Today we visited the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). It is the best uni in Argentina and top 10 in South America. After a brief presentation of the university and its numbers, we headed to the chemical department where all their current researchers were presented to us. We had the opportunity to visit their main experimental area where they conduct their research. We were also shown their hydrogen production plant that works by methanol reforming with WGS, very cool! The group split into 2 parts – organic and inorganic. In the inorganic part, we did not manage to see any more laboratories, but were presented 3 main research areas that this sub-department focuses on. Honestly? Engagement really plays a big role in how a topic presented is recepted. The organic group got to tour the labs. They were divided between the 3rd floor and the basement, so next to seeing the labs we also got a good workout in to keep us warm! The UBA is one of the oldest universities in the country, and this could be seen in a fascinating way in the labs. Here, they combined modern chemical equipment, with a completely wooden lab that had a very ~vintage~ feel to it. For example having fume hoods which were wooden boxes, but with an excellent extraction system. It was super unique!

After the uni visit, we needed to come back to the hotel despite a very cold and grey weather – not very latin vibes. A group of us bought a whole cheesecake and together with Ivo Filot, we ate it at the terrace having funny talks until midnight. Another group went to visit one of the famous Argentinian steak houses. The combination of kilos of steak and nice Argentinan red wine, led to an evening full of good conversation and an equally good meal!
