STUDY TOUR 2020

PARTICIPANTS

Roos Beljon

Hi!

I'm Roos Beljon, 21 years old. I was born and raised in Arnhem, but have been living in rooms for 3 years now in Eindhoven. Next year I will start the second year of the CPT master, for me this means that I will work on my graduation project and also take some courses. In addition to studying, I am very busy playing handball at PSV. Next season we will play first division, which means that we have to train hard and a lot. In my spare time I like to watch series and read a book every now and then. I also like to play games, so if you still have a fun game, I like to play.

I am really looking forward to the trip. I have never made such a long journey and I am very curious about life on the other side of the world.

Tom van den Berg

After an unsuccessful time as reserve participant for the study tour to south Korea and Japan, I really wanted to join the study tour to Australia. I am Tom van den Berg and am 24 years old. Currently I am in the CPT master track finishing my last courses. As hobbies I like to go cycling or go for a run and in a distant history I was fairly active as judoka. Throughout my years as student I have been active within the association and you know me as treasurer from the 29th  F.O.R.T. committee and chairman of the 60th board. Those years I was not able to travel, and therefore I am excited to go on a long and distant trip. During holidays I am active and want to explore the foreign country as much as possible, which I am planning on doing in Australia.

Huub van den Boogaard

Hey everybody,

I am Huub van den Bogaard. At this very moment I am in limbo between the third your of our beautiful bachelor and the first year of our wonderful master. This is however no problem since I am the coordinator of educational affairs for the coming year. Some might also know me as the treasurer of the F.O.R.T. but by now I have passed that honourable task along. I am 21 year old and I originate form Rossum (a.k.a. the pearl of the Bommelerwaard). Nowadays I live in Eindhoven together with some great roommates. My hobbies are: scuba diving, swimming and when I have time watching movies. I am really looking forward to this trip and I am sure that it will be and educational but also very fun time in Australia!

Lynn Bosveld

Hey everybody,

I am Lynn Bosveld and come from Delfgauw, a small village next to Delft. If you, like most people, are wondering why I am not studying there. I thought Eindhoven was much more ‘gezellig’. This year I will be a third year student. I live in Eindhoven in a very fun student house that keeps me busy throughout the week. In my free time I like to sport. I dance modern and ballet (and a little bit of salsa) at Footloose and try to join some of the group lessons at SSC every once in a while. Moreover I really enjoy talking with people, playing games and going out. Lastly I love going on vacation. Citytrips and wintersport are my favorites.

Vera Crommentuijn

HeyHey,

I’m Vera Crommentuijn and I’m 20 years old. Since two years I live in Eindhoven, but originally I’m from the beautiful Griendtsveen, on the boarder of Limburg and Noord-Brabant. I’ll start my third year of bachelor in September. I really like our study, but quantum physics are also a huge interest of mine. Therefore, I still don’t know yet which master track im going to follow. “Luckily”, I will probably have enough time to decide because I hope to become the chairman of E.S.H. Da Vinci coming year which is going to make I hard to pass all courses. Archery is my biggest passion, you will find me and my bow on the shooting range for almost 12 hours a week. Besides archery, I sport a lot and I like to drink nice craft beers with my friend in the F.O.R.T.. I really enjoy traveling, but I’ve never been out of Europe, so I’m really  looking forward to going to Australia next summer!

Nikolaj d' Hooghe

Hi!

My name is Nikolaj d’Hooghe and I am 22 years old. Although I am originally from Hulst, I have been living in Eindhoven for 4 years now. Regarding my study, I am in the CPT-track and currently working on my Master thesis. Next to studying, I like to do sports (a lot), as I love playing soccer, squash, working out in the gym and going for a run, mostly together with some friends. Most likely, I will also go for some runs in Australia. Moreover, I like to go out, go to festivals and have some drinks.

As I expect to finish my internship before the study tour, this trip will probably be one of my last activities as a student, because I will be looking for a job in industry after summer. Therefore, I hope the study tour to become an unforgettable experience in an exciting country.

Mark Dullemond

Hello all!

My name is Mark Dullemond and I am 20 years old. I am born in Zutphen, raised in Dieren and I am currently living in a student house in Eindhoven. I share this student house called Koudkrot with five other Japies. I just finished my bachelor and started my CPT master this year. My whole childhood I played soccer, since I started studying in Eindhoven I switched to indoor soccer and I am currently playing at Totelos. In the weekends you can find me watching soccer with friends and some beers. In my free time I like to go running or, if I am a bit more tired, watch some Netflix or play a game on the PlayStation. I was very happy to hear this edition of the study tour is going to Australia. I am looking forward to the trip and hope we will have four amazing weeks.

Sanne Giezen

Hello everyone,

My name is Sanne Giezen and I’m 21 years old. Originally, I come from Arnhem, the nice city above the rivers, but now I live in Eindhoven at the same place as another Chemical Engineering and Chemistry student Danique Grevink.

I’m a third year student who wants to do the Chemical and Process Technology master. I like to go to the gym and to do the Israeli sport Krav Maga. I’m also very excited when friends ask me to go to festivals with them or ask me to hang out.

Furthermore, I do a lot with my camera, so at every vacation I am busy making the most beautiful pictures and I will do that in Australia too. When I was a little girl I always had the dream to go to Australia, because of the beautiful nature and nice culture. So this girl is very excited to go on this trip!

Danique Grevink

Hey everyone!

My name is Danique Grevink and I am 20 years old. This year is the third year of my bachelor Chemical Engineering, where I am most interested in the molecular and physical side of chemistry. Therefore I’m planning on doing the master MSMC next year. Originally I’m from Deventer, which is a city in Overijssel, but I moved to Eindhoven at the beginning of my studies.

In my spare time, I like to meet with friends, read and draw. Furthermore, I do Krav Maga, which is an Israeli self-defense sport.

My brothers have wanted to go to Australia for years, so this is a great way of making them jealous. However, that’s not the only reason why I wanted to go on this trip of course. I’m looking forward to exploring Australia and getting to know the culture there and I hope we all will have a fantastic time!

Jord Jansen

Hey everyone!

I am Jord Jansen and I am currently 21 years old. I was born in Malden, but moved to Eindhoven three years ago and now live with 6 other Japie’s in the Hornystreet. You might have seen me before, as I am currently the chairman of the 62nd board of Japie. Next to my studies I like to spend time with my friends and I also enjoy a drink once in a while. I really like to do and watch sports, especially soccer, formula 1 and judo. However, I recently I discovered that I really like to do road cycling, so I will probably continue with that! I look forward to our trip to Australia, and hope to learn and see a lot of new things!

Nils Jansen

Hello everyone,

My name is Nils Jansen and I am currently 22 years old. I come from Geleen a village in the southern part of Limburg but I live currently in Eindhoven. I am currently a master student (in the MSMC track) in my second year and I will start my graduation project around February. For sport I climb in the halls but I want this year to go outdoors and get my K3 degree. Also I go cycling occasionally with my sport racing bike. In the other spare time that I have I am at a bunch of Japie activities and I like to cook. Therefore you might know me from the Chefcie. I am really looking forward to this tour in Australia. Because I really want to understand how they manage to survive while nature is actively trying to kill them.

Tom Janssen

Hello party people,

My name is Tom Janssen and I am 20 years old. You can’t really hear it right now (because you are reading) but I have an accent that originates from the very south of Limburg. Stein to be more precise. I have had the luck to be drawn in for the Australia trip as well. It was actually quite close for me, since I was too lazy to attend any day trips to companies and therefore was in a lower draw category. Luckily, I was drawn in and someone else wasn’t (sorry). Next to going on the Australia trip next year, I will also be the chairman of the F.O.R.T. (the bar of our faculty). I am sure this will be a very fun but also exhausting year, since the committee takes up quite some time. All in all, I think I can conclude I will have a very nice year for me to come and I am looking forward to enjoying every last bit of it.

Esmee de Korver

Hi to my fellow students,

My name is Esmee de Korver and I am 21 years old. Soon I’ll start my third year as a chemical technology student and hopefully I’ll round up my bachelor just before the study tour to Australia. I’m from Zaltbommel, a small village in Gelderland, and I travel to uni by train. I used to play hockey a lot. When I finished high school, I substituted it for whatever group training my local gym offers such as circuit training, power yoga and XCO. I really like to do sports and therefore I run a lot on the dikes while hoping not to be squashed by a pack of cyclists. I also love to draw and paint, very handy during organic chemistry! But even though I like benzenes, I prefer drawing movie scenes, animals or portraits. I’m looking forward to this trip because I have never been this far before, which is not that surprising since Australia is on the other side of the globe! I hope to meet everyone soon :)

Michelle de Laat

Hi Everyone!

My name is Michelle and I am 24 years old. Before I came to Eindhoven to study I have lived in Papendrecht, which is a small town next to Dordrecht.

I am currently in my second year of my master Chemical Engineering, where I am following the CPT track.

I like to have a beer on Thursday in the F.O.R.T. but I have been more active at the student  volleyball association E.S.V.V. Hajraa.

I love playing volleyball at Hajraa even though I am not  tall :)

Playing games is also one of my hobbies, that’s why I am currently working in an Escaperoom. Since I like games, I will probably bring some of my favorite games to Australia.

I already have some experiences with travelling but I have never been to Australia. I am really excited for the Study Tour and I know we will have a great time.

Fabiënne Lucas

Hi everyone,

I’m Fabiënne Lucas, a fourth-year student Chemical Engineering & Chemistry. This year, I am part of the Board of Wervingsdagen which organizes the career events of TU/e. In the previous years, I have been active at Japie by being chairman of the activity committee and member of the freshmen committee. Beside spending my time at the Zaak (you are always welcome for coffee!), I like to spend time with my friends in Eindhoven and ‘s-Hertogenbosch (where I was born 20 years ago). My perfect day is spending time with friends and family with some food and drinks. In the remaining time, I like to discover new places and read.

Since I like to travel, I have been to several countries inside and outside Europe. However, I have never been to Australia so I am looking forward to the study tour with a group full of Japies!

Ruben Meijer

Hello,

I am Ruben Meijer, aged nineteen. I live in Elst, which is located between Nijmegen and Arnhem. The upcoming year will be my third year of studying Chemical Engineering. I’m mostly interested in the field of chemical process design. In my free time I like to train my Judo skills or to go for a run. During winter holidays I usually go skiing in Austria or Germany. Also, I like to cook and eat some delicious and healthy food. When I don’t have too much homework I enjoy playing videogames and watching films and series on Netflix.

In the past, I’d usually not travel too far from home on a holiday, travelling to France or Austria for example. The upcoming study trip to Australia would be the first time for me to board an airplane. I’m confident that it will be a great and exciting experience.

Storm van Merwijk

Hey dear Reader,

I’m Storm, currently a 4th year bachelor student who will be using the coming year to decide between the CPT and MSMC master tracks. Four years ago I moved from the small village of Maasbommel to live here in Eindhoven, which I thoroughly enjoyed up to now. I spend my free time cooking, hanging out, making DIY projects and doing sports. The latter encompasses quite a few since I’m a big fan of variation: Swimming , basketball, mountainbiking, running et cetera, I’m quite bad at all of them but I sure do enjoy my time spent sporting. Travelling is something I’m also very fond of although I’ve never left Europe so Australia is sure to be an adventure. I’m doing my best to attend every Thursday drink in the F.O.R.T. so feel free to say hi and have a chat under the enjoyment of some craft beer!

Douwe Orij

On the 23rd of December 1998 I was born. Now it’s up to you to calculate my age. My parents gave me the beautiful name Douwe, which I proudly wear. I was born in Leiden, raised in Houten and nowadays I live in Eindhoven. I’m a third year Chemical Engineering & Chemistry student who is active at the study association Japie as an editor of the faculty magazine called T-Licht. I also take part in the Faculty Counsel and am trying to get my teaching degree.

Besides studying, football is my true passion. As the tall striker of Pusphaira 1, my nickname is Crouch. Next to that, I am also the mommy of my beloved multinational friend group which likes to join Japie activities, attend the weekly drink in the F.O.R.T. or have dinner together. The only thing I don’t have is a girlfriend, but who knows what Australia might bring.

Vilena Petrova

Hey everyone,

My name is Vilena, I’m 20 years old and am currently in the third year of my bachelor. I come from a town called Stara Zagora, which can be found basically in the middle of Bulgaria, but for the last two years Eindhoven has been my home. This year I am quite busy with both F.O.R.T. committee and keeping up with my studies, but in whatever free time I have left I like hanging out with my friends, singing and watching series. I also ‘occasionally’ enjoy having a nice craft beer. I have always enjoyed travelling but I have never before had an opportunity to go as far away as this study tour will take us. Visiting Australia has always been a childhood dream of mine, so I am very, very excited for the trip.

P.S. I love koala's

Dennis Thuy

Hi there!

My name is Dennis Thuy, and I am currently a fifth-year student at our faculty. I started the CPT-master last April, and I hope to finish the courses in this year. Next to studying I am a pretty active member of Japie, so you will probably find me in the Japie room quite often. Next to that, I like to enjoy a beer in our beautiful F.O.R.T., either in front of or behind the bar. When I’m not at university, I like to go out on my racing bike quite often. As a cycling messenger at Tour de Ville, I have also made this hobby into my job! Finally, I quite like to cook and try out different recipes from all over the world. I am not yet very familiar with the Australian cuisine, so I am very much looking forward to having a taste of the food (and drinks) Down Under!

Keegan Walker

Hello everyone,

My name is Keegan Walker and I am master student who follows the chemical process technology trajectory. Originally I come from a little village in Limburg called Ittervoort, but since my second year I moved to Eindhoven to enjoy the student life. I have been very active at my student association, where I am a drafter of Hét Tappersgilde at the moment. So you can see me draft once a month at the Thursday drink in the F.O.R.T.. Furthermore my hobbies are fitness, gaming and of course chilling with friends. I am looking forward to Australia, because I like to travel even though I haven’t to much places yet. I am curious to see if the Australian fish n chips can be stand up to the traditional English ones I grew up with. I am quite curious to all the different kind of food/drinks Australia has to offer and of course the wild life!

Boris Zwaan

Hello everyone!

I am Boris, currently a 4th year student. My hobbies include music, playing piano, playing tennis, running, cooking and brewing beer. I come from small village north of Breda, Wagenberg but I now live for more than 2 years in Huize Ranonkel in Eindhoven. Currently, I am doing a board year at Stichting Wervingsdagen where I fulfill the function of chairman.  A few weeks after the future board is installed, the Study Tour begins, which will be the perfect opportunity for me to relax after this busy year!

I am really looking forward to see the culture, animals and food of Australia. I think that getting to know cultures (including food!) from other countries makes you more versatile and diverse as a person. Travelling for a month with the group and experiencing these things all together will I hope be very cosy!

RESERVE PARTICIPANT

Bart Timmermans

Hello everybody,

I am Bart Timmermans and I’m 20 years old. I’m a fifth-year student and have started the master CPT halfway last college year. I’m now living in Eindhoven for a little more than 3 year. I am a proud owner of a season ticket for PSV, so when there is a home match, you could run in to me there. Within Japie I’m part of the Chef- and study trip committee (not the same as the study tour committee), so you can often find me in one of the Japie-rooms. Another hobby of mine is to go on walking trips, which I prefer to do in summer in the mountains. After 4 amazing weeks in South-Korea and Japan during the last study tour, I hope that the committee as well as the participants will have a similar or even more enjoyable experience in Australia.
