STUDY TOUR 2020

THE COMMITTEE

T.S.V. 'Jan Pieter Minckelers' organises a study tour every two years with the aim of allowing its members to develop by getting acquainted with industry, education and culture in a distant country or countries. The next trip is planned for 2020, and again an enthusiastic group of people has been gathered to arrange this trip. After an extensive orientation, they decided to investigate Australia in "A Chemical Journey To The South". With great pleasure and full commitment, this group will organize this four-week trip for 28 students and their scientific supervisor. Below you will find more about us.

Gijs Langenhuijsen

Hey hey people,

Gijs Langenhuijsen here. I am proud to be able to call myself the chairman of this fine committee. I am a 22 year old Brabander from Tilburg and have started my first year as an MSMC master student. I was born on a Monday, so according to astrologers this makes me adaptive, sensitive, motherly (fatherly?) and kind. Even if I don’t trust astrologers a 100%, these traits do sound like they would come in handy for someone in charge of our large group of travelers.

I have never been a big traveler before I started studying, but due to Japie’s weeklong study trips I have seen a bit of Europe and have gotten a taste for traveling. Soon I will travel across the globe to Australia, a big experience if you ask me.

Things I like to do in my spare time are playing board/video games, experiencing and trying to make art and of course making and forgetting a ton of memories in the F.O.R.T..

Yasmine Bergmans

Hi there!

My name is Yasmine Bergmans, I’m twenty years old, born in Breda, and I’m currently a third year bachelor student. People might know me as the Coordinator Batavierenrace of the BatCie 2018-2019. In the meantime, I’m also part of the STC2020 as the Secretary and I will make sure that everyone makes an unforgettable journey to the other end of the world.

Doing nothing is not really an option for me. I really love being active and luckily I have various hobbies for this. I love kayaking, climbing, squashing, horseback riding, traveling the world and cooking. But most of all, I really love food.

My ambition is to go somewhere once a year where I have never been before. I love exploring unknown countries and fortunately for me, Australia is one of them! I can hardly wait until the summer vacation, I am ready to go down under.

Stefan Maessen

My name is Stefan Maessen and I am the Treasurer of the Study Tour Committee 2020. I was born and raised in a small town called Panningen. I am now 20 years old and happily continuing to study every day. This does however get tiring, which leads to me travelling at least 3 times a year. Exploring new lands, eating odd foreign dishes and, of course, drinking some weird outlandish craft beers are all favorites of mine. Although one of the most fun things about travelling is definitely coming back home and sharing your memories with the people around you! I am really glad I got the opportunity to be a part of this study tour, and I am certain that we Japies can make this trip to Australia an amazing one!

Joost Kraakman

Hey everyone!

My name is Joost Kraakman and I am the Coordinator Sponsoring in this amazing study tour committee. I am born and raised in Gouda, a city ‘boven de rivieren’, which you probably know from the cheese or syrup waffles. I am 21 years old and finished my bachelor last year. When I moved to Eindhoven three years ago I experienced a small culture shock, but today I can deal with the strange accent and I really enjoy the ‘Brabantse gezelligheid’. Next to studying I really like to sport in my spare time, especially playing soccer. I’ve been doing this since I was seven years old. Besides sports I enjoy a beer with my friends and I like to travel. Together with my mom and brother we plan a city trip in Europe each year. I visited a lot of cities in Europe, however I never left this continent. Australia will be the first time and I am very excited to explore this part of the world..

Freek Brils

I am Freek Brils and am currently the Coordinator Tour Planning of the committee. I am currently studying the fluid dynamics master FLOW in Eindhoven, a switch I made this September.

People from Japie might know me from Wervingsdagen, where I did a board year in 2019. Some of the older members might also know me from the Freshman Committee I did in my first year. Or, if you still don’t know me from any of this, you can know me from frequenting the Japie room and the drink.

My favorite thing to do whenever I have some time for myself is to make some music! I have a guitar which I can play pretty well and a piano which I can play pretty horrible. I however mainly try to not have time for myself, but to plan time with my friends for drinks or casual board games.

I am excited to organize the study trip together with my beautiful committee members and hope you are excited too!

Koen van Wesel

Hey there!

My name is Koen van Wesel, I am 20 years old and in the third year of my Chemical Engineering bachelor's. I live in Eindhoven for about 2 years now but I originally come from Fijnaart, a small town in the west of Noord-Brabant. Within this committee I will fulfill the role of Coordinator Public Relations.

Even though we are not in Australia yet I am really excited already. I love to travel and have had the opportunity to visit quite some beautiful countries together with my parents or friends. As could be said in Dutch I really like "cultuur snuiven".

In my spare time, if I can find some, I enjoy  drinking (craft) beer with friends, playing video games, cooking, visiting the gym. listening to music and, occasionally, binging series.
