Tuesday the 20th of September the participants of the study tour 2012 had their first official meeting. With a warm welcome through a Canadian whiskey and a brief introduction by chairman Sander Treur the activity was officially opened. Three quiz rounds were played to determine a winning group, including a fast food quiz, a music quiz and a quiz concerning general knowledge on the USA and Canada.
The fast food quiz required teams to determine the origin of different chicken nuggets or hamburgers. Most of them are quite experienced with fast food so this test was an easy one. Of course some general questions on the famous American invention (fast food) were asked to give the groups that weren’t too good at tasting hamburgers a chance on revenge. Apparently, ’snert’ has been in menu of MacDonalds in the Netherlands as well. During the general knowledge quiz a lot of fun facts came by. For example the movie ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’ was recorded in Japan and the fact the USA don’t have an official language. The music round consisted of American and Canadian ‘flavored’ songs of which the correct title and artist had to be guessed.
After the three quizzes, the surprise round started. The different groups were given a short period of time to prepare their own show. Each group was given a different theme, varying from a magician show to Jerry Springer and to Tell Sell. Shows were given like a very disturbing birth at Jerry Springer and a tempting Tell Sell commercial which tried to convince everyone of the need of concentration pills. You only had to remember the 39-digit phone number which was extremely hard to remember. Finally the committee was charged with organizing a show as well and by performing the Macarena in ‘America’s Next Best Dance Crew’ they concluded the evening. The final score, with free American candy for the winning group:
Group 1: 30.16 || Group 2: 32.00 || Group 3: 35.16 || Group 4: 32.84
